Today the team was up bright and gay despite a cold night. Yeah, they say Kisii is God's bathroom and must rain every day. Breakfast was served and camp broken fast. We are having guests to flag us off!
Her Excellency, the First Lady of Kisii County, Mrs. Elizabeth Ongwae is coming to meet the team! She is an amazing lady with a huge heart. This week she is out in the villages with the Kenya Red Criss team, distributing shoes to the needy kids. Our sponsors, Mt. Kenya University are also here to cheer us on, along with officials from the health ministry of Kisii.
The First Lady has spoken like a real lady,  understanding the importance of the initiative and urging all first ladies to follow her example and take the baton when the team arrives in their counties and hand it over to the next first lady.
We had a great flag-off and she walked the team to the main road, flanked by the Mount Kenya University team, the Health officials, the Ufanisi Staff and the rest of the team.
Today was a sunny walk. Nyangi is still awaiting a report from home about the baby. He is strong and will not leave the team. We are all silently praying for the little one. We have our first casualty. Peter is walking in sandals, he has blisters on both his little toes. Believe me, it is not slowing him down.
And today is Thomas Chacha's birthday!!! And we find this out while on the road!!!!!! How now?
I walked a total of 7km today, the first three were on a steep uphill and I was panting like crazy. I bowed out and opted to ride in the Red Cross Ambulance. The paramedics are awesome. I was fed on sweet bananas and lots of water. I picked up the walk the last 4, and only because I didn't know our destination was that far out!
Today we were hosted like royalty! Mr. Ken Nyaundi, Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, opened his amazing home to the team. His amazing 82-year old mother was our host. She regaled me with stories all evening and made me promise to visit her again. We had a massive buffet dinner and a proper hot shower and a glimpse at the current news on TV (things you regard as luxury on the road).  By morning, no one wanted to leave. Moses, our co-host is totally special! I will certainly be back for more good food.
Surely there are great people in the world. Blessings to the Nyaundi family.
