Three more days to finish line!!!! Three!!!
Rearing to go is the best description of the team. People are up early, getting ready and having breakfast amid cheerful banter. Our destination is Samburu, 25km away. Just so you know, Samburu township is in Kwale County!
We are currently covered by the Taveta Red Cross team and they comprise of an energetic youthful duo, Vincent and Said. Vincent is a man of numerous talents, extremely outgoing, very helpful and sociable. He makes friends with all kinds of people, age notwithstanding.  He makes a fantastic EMT. Said is extremely dedicated. He is currently fasting as it is the holy month of Ramadhan. Despite that, he is committed to his work, and still walks with the team to encourage them! What a blessing these two are!
It's yet another dusty walk but the mission before us is bigger than the temporary discomfort. That is the level of commitment here. Right this moment, as the team trudges on, a wife somewhere is distraught  wondering how to tell her husband that she is slowly dying of cancer. That in a short while, he is going to be a widower, raising their four children alone. That in a few months, she won't be able to do much around the home but will instead require full time care. That the end won't be pleasant. She will be in pain, with foul smelling discharge,  having lost weight and having no appetite. That she will leak of urine and stool, that even her own children will not be able to tolerate the stench. That she will cry for death to take her, even if it means leaving her children orphaned.
Death from cervical cancer is the most undignified of deaths. It is a psychological nightmare for the woman and for her kin. This is the reason the team is walking. This is what drives them on. This is why we must all unite to prevent this from ever happening to any woman, whether we know her or not. She could be your sister, mother, wife or daughter. Come on, get on your walking shoes and walk this walk with us. It is that important!!
